Junior doctors' strike: Millions of appointments and procedures cancelled as junior doctors start longest strike in NHS history

Paul Goth, 51, was admitted to hospital before Christmas after a fall, but has also had two heart operations cancelled, at least one of which was cancelled because of the junior doctor's strikes. This month junior doctors plan on six-day industrial action - their longest in NHS history.

The British Medical Association (BMA) said it was forced to take action and reject the government's December pay offer as it fails to compensate for real-terms pay cuts going as far back as 2008.
