Conservative Party Conference: Sunak confirms he is 'cancelling rest of HS2 project'

The PM has unveiled a new transport scheme that will be called "Network North", adding he would "protect" the £12bn project to link Manchester and Liverpool and that HS2 trains will run on an existing track to Manchester and end at Euston.

The PM has scrapped the northern leg of HS2, with a promise to spend the £36bn freed up from the project on hundreds of other transport schemes across the country instead.
