Some called it a "mini budget", the government preferred to use the term "growth plan". As the UK faces a winter amidst a cost of living crisis, new Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng revealed his proposals for encouraging economic growth.

In what is said to be the biggest tax-cutting announcement since 1972, he abolished the top rate of income tax and brought forward a reduction to the basic rate. He also ended the cap on bankers' bonuses.
