Search continues for Dundee teenager Liam Buchan feared swept away in River North Esk in Angus

The 15-year-old got into difficulty in the water near Edzell in Angus over the weekend. Mountain rescue teams from Police Scotland and Tayside are continuing the search on Monday. The force's dive and marine unit is also providing support.

The search for a missing 15-year-old boy who is feared to have been swept away in a river in Scotland continues after police named him and released a picture.

Liam Buchan was with family and friends when he got into difficulty in the River North Esk near the village of Edzell in Angus at around 4.45pm on Saturday.

A rescue operation was launched with teams from Police Scotland, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, the Scottish Ambulance Service and HM Coastguard called to the scene.

Despite extensive efforts amid challenging conditions, the Dundee teenager remains missing.

Mountain rescue teams from Police Scotland and Tayside continue to search the river on Monday.

Specialist officers from the force's dive and marine unit are also providing support.

Inspector Grant McGaughay said: "Officers are also supporting Liam's family at this difficult time and keeping them updated as our search continues.

"They would also like to warn persons not suitably trained or equipped not to put themselves in danger in the search for Liam."
