Jared Leto carrying his own head as an accessory, Katy Perry dressed as a chandelier, and Lady Gaga pulling off one of the most elaborate red carpet outfit reveals ever, the Met Gala always offers dramatic fashion.
This year's theme at the Metropolitan Museum of Art was "Camp: Notes on Fashion" and was inspired by a pivotal 1964 essay by Susan Sontag, with some commentators online seemingly irked that some celebs had opted to read the theme as feminine, rather than cheeky and wry.
Many of the looks on offer would not look out of place on cult hit TV show RuPaul's Drag Race, in which America's most talented drag queens have to serve original and highly creative catwalk looks each week.
Indeed, Aquaria, winner of last year's show, wore a glass gown accented with silver wig and exaggerated long fingers - complete with claws. She was joined by the show's host, RuPaul, the legendary drag queen and performer.
Among those walking in the spirit of drag was LGBT icon singer-songwriter Lady Gaga, who presented four different looks on the catwalk by revealing another layer just as you thought her look/performance was complete.
Legendary singer Celine Dion, who once famously wore a backward tuxedo to the Oscars, stunned in a golden fringe dress with a dramatic headpiece.
Singer Katy Perry was rumoured to have been transported to the Gala in a UPS truck to accommodate her wacky chandelier dress, while actor Jared Leto wore a dramatic red ensemble which he paired with a life-size 3D model of his own head.
Performer Billy Porter stole the show by arriving carried overhead by a troupe of shirtless men, before descending to reveal an opulent golden look - complete with wings, head dress and heavy eye make-up.
Model-turned-aspiring-lawyer Kim Kardashian looked impossible as she poured her tiny-waisted body into a couture Thierry Mugler dress designed to give the illusion she was dripping with water.

Looking equally as impossible was actor Ezra Miller, who accessorised with eyeballs.
Elsewhere on the pink carpet, tennis star Serena Williams paired a high fashion yellow gown with vibrant Nike trainers and comedian Mindy Kaling wore a body-hugging golden dress.
Many stars may have opted for a pre-catwalk diet, but actress Tiffany Haddish seemed more concerned about going hungry and brought fried chicken in a plastic bag in case she needed something to nibble on during the night.
A handful of stars appeared to miss the dress code memo, including singer Frank Ocean, whose understated look could have left him confused for a bouncer in a windbreaker.
