Man in his 80s arrested on suspicion of murder after death of woman, also in her 80s

Police have arrested a man in his 80s on suspicion of murder after the death of a woman in Bedfordshire.

They were called to a house in Kingsbury Avenue, Dunstable on Thursday afternoon after reports that a woman, also in her 80s, had been injured.

Emergency services were alerted but she was pronounced dead at the scene, said police.

Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire major crime unit is investigating.

Detective Inspector Verity McCann said: "This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the woman's loved ones at this time.

"They have been informed and are being supported by our family liaison officers."
