Body found in search for man missing in River Tay in Perth

A body has been found during the search for a 27-year-old man who went missing in the River Tay.

Emergency crews were called to a report of three men in the water in Perth at about 7.45pm on Thursday.

Two of the men were traced and were checked over by the Scottish Ambulance Service.

A major search was launched around Moncreiffe Island to find the third man, who was reported to be in difficulty in the water.

On Friday evening, Police Scotland said the body of a man had been recovered from the water.

A spokesperson later said: "Formal identification is yet to take place and enquiries are ongoing.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal in due course."

Tay Street was closed for a spell in both directions from Marshall Place to Canal Street, but later reopened.

The search operation also involved mountain rescue, an air support unit, the force's dive and marine unit, and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
