A body of a woman has been found in the search for the wife of a former Scotland rugby player who went missing following a swim, police have said.

The woman's body was discovered near Hound Point, South Queensferry, at around 3.20pm on Saturday, Police Scotland said.

Officers say the body has not been formally identified but that the family of Jenny Hastings, whose husband is the former Scotland rugby player Scott Hastings, have been informed.

Police say there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances, but a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

According to a statement put out by her family, Mrs Hastings disappeared after going swimming in Wardie Bay, Edinburgh on Tuesday.

They said she had "struggled with her mental health for a number of years".

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency said they received a "report of concern" at about 2.45pm that day, and a helicopter, coastguard rescue teams, lifeboats, and other nearby vessels took part in a search.

But after failing to find anything, the search was called off hours later - at 8.20pm, the agency said.

The Hasting family statement said earlier in the week: "The Hastings family are absolutely heartbroken.

"We miss our Jenny. She leaves a gaping hole in all our hearts and hope that she is returned to us safely so that we can celebrate her remarkable life.

"Jenny and Scott have a huge following of friends from all walks of life including those that work in the media and we ask that at this moment in time we are allowed to grieve privately with family members."
