A British man has died after being shot in the head in Jamaica.

Sean Patterson, a 33-year-old personal trainer from west London, was standing next to the pool of the guest house he was staying in at the time of the attack near Montego Bay in St James on Monday.

He was found with gunshot wounds to his upper body and head.

Witnesses heard "loud explosions" at the time of the attack, police said.

Mr Patterson was taken to hospital but could not be revived.

According to local media, a 34-year-old man has been taken into custody.

A spokesperson for the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said they were "supporting the family of a British man who died in Jamaica and are in contact with the local authorities".
