Boy, 13, charged with 'knife possession and police attack' near Dalkeith school

A 13-year-old boy has been charged with carrying a knife and assaulting a police officer in Scotland.

It is understood teaching staff alerted a community police officer based at the Dalkeith school in Midlothian on Monday in response to a rumour a teenager may have been carrying a knife.

A boy was then reportedly approached by the officer at nearby Mayfield Park in the town during the school day.

Midlothian Council said it could not comment on an ongoing police investigation but confirmed "everyone in the school was safe".

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 13-year-old boy was charged in connection with offences including being in possession of a knife and police assault after an incident at a school in Dalkeith on Monday 13 May.

"A report will be submitted to the relevant authorities."
