A body has been found in the search for a missing hillwalker who disappeared in the Scottish Highlands.

Ruth Betts, 64, reached the summit of Na Gruagaichean at around 10.15am on Wednesday, but later failed to return to her hotel in Fort William.

Police Scotland subsequently launched a search, stating Ms Betts was an experienced hiker and had intended to walk the Mamores range along Na Gruagaichean, Stob Coire a' Chairn and Am Bodach.

In a later update, the force confirmed a body had been found on An Garbhanach at around 7.15pm on Thursday.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Formal identification has yet to take place but the family of Ruth Betts, 64, reported missing in the area, have been made aware.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
